The Gables Mansion, built in 1912, in a quiet residential neighborhood, was purchased by the current owner in September 1982. The lovely four-story English Tudor mansion was completely renovated to house The Gables for chemically dependent adult women. The main level has the "great room" and dining room beautifully decorated to promote a serene and harmonious atmosphere. The upper two levels, decorated in quiet blue and white with accents of peach, have numerous bedrooms as well as group rooms, lounges, and counselor offices. The garden level provides additional living areas and bedrooms. The quality of these surroundings lends an atmosphere of warmth and security to the recovery setting.
Starting Point is a non-residential, after-care recovery coaching and relapse prevention training program that offers workable solutions and peer support to young adults and adults.
Starting Point has been designed for teens, young adults and adults who, after transitioning from a residential treatment facility or the justice system, are in fear of relapsing or have relapsed. Our after-care program provides recovering clients with the behavioral coping skills and an individualized relapse prevention plan that will help combat the desire to relapse.
The mission of Lakeplace is to provide highly structured chemical dependency care in the least
costly, least restrictive, non-institutional manner possible, consistent with the individualized
needs of persons we have an opportunity to serve.
OUR STORY: When Jennifer Diederich founded Coming Straight Home Sober Living for Women in 2007, there were a few sober houses serving women in Saint Paul — but none in which she herself would have wanted to live.
“I saw women rushing home to less than ideal marriages and family situations in part because they wanted a bathroom without cracked tiles,” says Diederich. “I hoped women would do better and give themselves more time to recover at sober homes that provided more creature comforts.”
To test her theory, Diederich bought an affordable house on Farrington Street just off University Avenue in the Frogtown neighborhood of Saint Paul and set to work making her vision a reality. Within months of opening, she had a waiting list of more than 20 women.
Without the resources to buy another property outright, Diederich feels that her meeting with a property developer who prefers to remain a “silent partner” was a “God thing.” The developer had recently purchased a 6,000 square foot house on Holly Avenue in Saint Paul’s Crocus Hill area that he was willing to renovate and lease the finished property to Come Straight Home Sober Living. Within days of opening the house was full and the waiting list was once again growing.
Two Summit Avenue properties and a house on Grand Avenue were soon after acquired — somewhat to the alarm of surrounding neighbors. “We’ve been lucky to find properties in Saint Paul’s most exclusive neighborhoods and have worked hard to be good neighbors in every regard,” explains Diederich.

The PRIDE Institute Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is an option for clients who have stable living environments, and/or do not require extensive residential programming. For many, IOP is often a step-down following participation in the residential program at PRIDE Institute or at another facility. The IOP offers flexibility to accommodate varying client schedules. Clients are allowed to maintain prescribed medication while in IOP and are encouraged to continue therapy sessions with outside professionals. The use of mood-altering chemicals is not allowed while clients are involved in the IOP. This includes the use of substances off PRIDE Institute premises and on days that clients do not attend programming. While participating in the IOP, clients work with the counseling team in both group and individual settings. Consistent attendance at one of the PRIDE Sober Support Groups is a standard recommendation. Clients are also expected to attend a minimum of two self-help group meetings per week while engaged in treatment.
