It turned my stomach this weekend to read a story in the New York Times about a smart phone app that helps drunk drivers avoid sobriety checkpoints. The app displays a Google map with locations of checkpoints which are added by the app users for others to utilize.

To their credit, some Senators in Congress asked the big three -- Blackberry, Google, and Apple -- to ban these apps. Only Blackberry has compiled so far.

Roughly 33% of all highway fatalities (roughly 11,000 last year) are caused by drunk driving. Do you think these apps should be outlawed?

Do you think phone apps that disclose sobriety checkpoints should be banned?

  • Yes, these apps should be banned. (100%)
  • No, these apps should not be banned. (0%)
  • I don't know. (0%)

I voted yes.  Your going to have people taking out their phones and playing with them while driving.  It will cause accidents.  Needing these apps should indicate that you have a serious problem and need help.  Why are you people drinking and driving anyway?  Do you want to kill my family and I on our way home from my kids baseball game?  Do you want to kill a pregnant women who hasn't given birth yet.  Do you want to kill a mom, dad, grandma, grandpa, uncle, aunt, cousin, sister, brother?  What if it was your family?!  Think before you Drink/Use and Drive!  In the state of California it is illegal to be on your phone while driving anyways.  When you drive up to a sober checkpoint you have the chance to turn around anyway.  I seen people do it.  Why can't you people ask a friend to drive you home or get a cab?

I voted for the BAN! I respect people's right to use whatever self destructive chemical they want but not when it may or deos put me or others at risk. Just today I was chatting with a client who was recounting the the number of times he drove impaired. He did express loads of gratitude for being here and able to chat, biut also began to experience remorse for the danger he put himeslef and others in. This alll started because he roomamte was sharing about the bar cralw he took using friends on as the designated driver. He shared he had a different perspective about everything aftter watching his friends get hammered last night.

New show: I Shouldn't be Alive (from my using drugs!) WHat stories that would be, better than lots of reality on now...
