I wanted to share my recent experience with a sober house for women in Portland, Maine. Unfortunately, this house came highly recommended and sadly the manager is not suited to be running a sober living community home. Between allowing pain medication in the home (for a resident who suffered an accident - excuse being "that was not her drug of choice"), to accepting residents that were expelled from rehab facilities for not following regulations and were not subject to the full interview process as the other residents. Which only disrupted the focus of those continuing their path within the twelve step process. The rules change according to the manager and how she feels that particular day. Rules are not enforced consistently or fairly among residents and upon leaving - my deposit was not returned as stated in the policy. The only thing this house provided was stress, aggrivation, and that environment is not an environment for someone seriously living a sober future.
