What are your questions? I did the suboxone program, and I'm very familiar with it. I have seen successes and failure, as with any other program.

Hi thanks for responding. I have been on oxycodone, 60-90 mg a day for many years. Went to doctor who ultimately adjusted my dose of suboxone to 6mg every morning. Tommorow marks 1 week of treatment. When I posted i was EXTREMELY tired, I now am now able to function pretty much all day, My questions:

Does the tiredness continue to get better. Can I function normally at some point on 6mg. When do you think I can wean off the suboxone, and how should I do it. I never used it for a "high" just to control pain. I am in increasing pain but off the oxycodones. My body would go into withdrawl, and that's when I took more. It would actually wake me up at night to take more. I want to get off the suboxone at some point so that I am drug free. Please understant, I don;t have a mental, feel high habit or desire, my body craved it, not my mind. I hope you can give me some advise. Thank you in advance, June

Have you talked any of this over with your doctor?  I'm sure he/she could answer these questions for you.

As I said before I personally don't have any experience with it, but as you say, I'm sure you want to get rid of any and all drugs....Good Luck and let us know how it goes....

Hi. Yes i did ask him and he said everyone reacts differently to any meds. A general answer. I was curious to find someone who actually completed a suboxone program. I understand my situation may be different, but just wanted to know what someonelse experienced, and maybe some does and don'ts.

I really appreciate any and all help. Thanks, June

I don't know if you've done this or not, but if you put suboxone in the search on this site, you'll find a lot of posts on it.....I'm glad you're in contact with the doc....

Hi, just curious as to how long the tired feeling lasts. Was doing 30 - 60mg. oxy a day. If it wasn't for the tiredness and some, (brain fog), I would br great!

Thanks in advance,

June

Honestly, I can't tell you exact times because we're all different, but I would expect at least a month or more. It doesnt happen over night, and it isnt easy - even with subs....we just have to keep working at it. You need to press your doctor too about your desire to come off the subs. You shouldnt be staying at the same dose for more then 2 months. Your doc should have you gradually taper down until you're off them. 1-2 mg decrease in dose every 2 months or so until you're off. AGAIN I AM NOT A DOCTOR, but this is pretty typical.

Thanks again. I have been trying everywhere I could to get some sort of an opinion at least, about weaning down. I very much understand you are not a doctor, but I am thinking that you already have gone through all of this and hopefully are 100% clean of subs now, am I right? If so, and if you would be willing, I would like to be able to periodically ask you questions as I start my weaning down. Would that be ok?

Thank you again so much,

June

Yes you are right, and you can bounce any questions you have off me anytime...I'm not always on a computer so sometimes it might take a day or so to get back to you. I'm happy to help anyone trying to get better (its part of recovering). Just be ready for blunt, honest answers...I'm terrible at sugarcoating things lol.

Hi. It's me againSmile    Went to my dr. today and came to find out that there is another dr. in the same office, (group), who treats sub users. This dr. appears to have a more realstic approach in as much as she believes no one should even begin tapering until they are side effect free from there current dose. I still get headaches, tired and not my old self, although I AM Much BETTER. She said she has patients on subs for over 2 years!

On some of the forums I read about; get off subs asap, these are worse than the opiates, the longer your on them the less likely you can get off.................etc. I am taking 5-1/2mg. am, and at 2 or 3 pm I absolutely need that last 1/2mg, for a total of 6mg per day. I don't like the severity of my headaches when my afternoon dose becomes needed, although after that dose my headache soon diminishes.

May I have your opinion please?

Hey June. You're new doc sounds like she ues the same type of system mine did. What we would do is stay at a dosage until I was comfortable and side effect free, and then we would taper down. I always felt a bit uncomfortable for a few days when the dosage was first lowered, but it was never too bad, and it would soon pass. The only thing you may want to check with your doc is this - I always, up until the very end when I was taking 1 mg per day, split my dose in half. Like you are taking 6 mg now - I would take 3 mg in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. When you cut to 4 you take 2 and 2, and so on.....do whatever your doctor says and good luck. You will be ok.
