Hello Elquilar!

Welcome to this site!  Glad you had an enlightening time at treatment!  It is what you make it out to be!  People just go there and expect to be cured.  What they don't realize is the fact that they need to put something in to get something back!  Effort goes a long way!Smile  They more you put into your program, the more you will enjoy it!

  Have a good day everyone!

  Keep coming back!

Ann

Recovery First and its staff helped to change my life!  The people were "real" with me and that’s what I needed - not sugar coating! We enter treatment because our lives are unmanagble and we cannot live without drugs/alcohol.  I had to learn how to live and that’s what recovery first showed me how to do.  Jim Davis is one of the most wonderful people I know and I am eternally grateful for him.  I feel so very blessed to have had the opportunity to come down from the Philadelphia area to go to treatment there.  All of the counselors and staff were awesome.  (Including Beth!).  I just felt inclined to respond to this based on some of the negative things that were being thrown around about the man that helped to save my life.  We are all intitled to our opinions of course, so I had to share mine!

Eternally Grateful, Big Smile

Jennifer M.

Thats horrible!! I'm so glad you brought this to our attention.  I know of one, http://www.recoveryconnection.org and I'ms ure there are a lot of good ones besides this in FL as well.  People in rehab facilities should be compasssionate given the circumstances.

Hello to all newcomers to the site mikef here!

welcome to this blessed site of hope and recovery.lets all remember though we we can all mean what we say but we dont need to say it mean..we spent a few weeks awhile back with a lot of non productive posts concerning our reason for being here "to help the still sick and suffering" and to offer suggestions of hope,,everyone is definitely entitled to their own opinion but being respectful is also of the utmost importance.as we say in my process there are no "big I'S AND LITTLE "U'S" here.I wish you all peace .keep comin back to share the positive message of recovery/ thanks /peace mikefCool

Well, for my two cents worth....I had been in an out of detox many times...hospitals.....recovery programs...sober living homes....yadda yadda.  I was a hard case.    But then I went and screwed up royally (I mean big time) and was COURT ordered to rehab.

So I went because I forced to ...and I got yelled at.....really yelled at.  And I deserved it.  I needed to be shook up, because up until that point I was still in my "stinking thinking" phase.   Yep...I called home crying...saying they were mean.  Begging and pleading because I didn't want to stay.

The best thing that my husband and kids did was hang up the phone on me....and I was stuck there.  It was hard...it was damn hard.  Especially having to face the truth about myself.  I yelled...I screamed... I resisted ..... I even threw a few chairs.

What I realized in the end...was that everything they were telling me was true.  I had to accept the truth about myself before I could change my behavior.

After 20+ years of drinking.... I got sober, for the first time in my life. (if U don't count pre-puberty)

So maybe some programs are tougher than others.  In my case...nothing less would have worked.

CJlovestigger... I'm a work in progress

Michael you are 100% correct with any complaints about Recovery First. I had to take my son out after 2 weeks because of the facilities ridiculous ways of treating situations & patients.  James  Davis has been fine as far as I know but certain members of the staff are unfair and impossible to deal with. They constantly blame their unfair decisions on patient behavior to protect themselves (The Counselors).  Some of them are on power trips and need to act more like human beings. It got to the point where my son could no longer confide in his counselors because what he would confide in them about they would use against him and take away privileges to 'punish' him. This is definitely not a place to recommend for a recovering addict, the level of unfairness and frustration my son had to endure while fighting to stay sober was beyond belief!  It is very interesting to me that when they wanted the money paid I could talk directly to Jim the owner or Eric the director the other day as well. Today when I had a very serious situation which led to my son having to leave the facility neither could be reached! They also would not allow my son to stay on the property for 20 minutes to wait for his ride. They wanted to drop him off at the Hardrock hotel or train station alone!! Talk about lack of professionalism. Marge my son's 'counselor' even went as far as hanging the phone up on me and while I was making arrangements for him to be picked up kept telling my son to hang up on me as well. They had a very good counselor there who would of taken my son where he needed to go but they refused to let him. Why? To give us another hard time. There are many very good facilities to get healthy, don't waste your time, money and heartache on Recovery First!!!!! Save yourself the additional stress this process is hard enough!
