Footprints in Recovery
National/Regional Affordable Treatment Service Provider

In 2007 Footprints in Recovery became the first faith-based private substance abuse recovery facility on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Since then we have welcomed numerous recovering addicts into our home-like setting. At Footprints in Recovery we do understand the bondage of addiction, and educate our clients on the disease. We are equipped to address addiction by a holistic approach in a Christian environment. Our staff is committed to exemplify faith and hope, not only to our residents, but to their families. We are holistic in the sense that our approach facilitates healing of body, mind, and spirit. Individual and family counseling is provided by extraordinary licensed professionals. Being a small, private facility brings an enormous advantage over state and public detox wards and treatment hospitals. We provide a one-to-two staff ratio and our success rate far exceeds that of institutional treatments. We attribute this good news in large part to our in-depth education on relapse prevention. Other important and unique qualities of the Footprints in Recovery program include our attention given to daily living skills, budgeting and money management, anger management, and self-esteem training. Resident clients assist in,meal preparation, housekeeping and enjoy a variety of Outer Banks recreational activities. We host a family weekend gathering in both our 30 day and 60 day substance abuse treatment programs. Clients graduating from our 60 day recovery program are eligible to enter one of Footprint's longer-term affordable Sober Living homes for women and men. Here, the skills and tools learned during treatment become practical in a safe environment. Our guests report feeling welcomed into the Footprints family, not like a number or statistic. Our clients agree that the program at Footprints In Recovery nutures personal growth as a key component in being freed from the cycle of substance abuse.

Harrison House of Virginia
5105-Q Backlick Rd.
Annandale, Virginia 22003

Harrison House is a 16-bed residential program that also offers day treatment and intensive outpatient services. Founded in 1999 by Stephen S. Crow, named after his grandfather, Robert John Harrison Crow, the program has taken part in the recovery of over 2,500 clients. Currently it is the only private, non-hospital based residential program within a 50-mile radius of Washington D.C. The residential program maintains two gender specific homes, eight beds for each and functions as a “modified therapeutic community.” The residents take part in cooking, cleaning and general upkeep of their home while attending day long clinical activities. They are required to attend AA or NA meetings daily. Their family members and friends may attend a weekly multi-family group held on Sundays, the only day of visitation. Families may also attend individual family meetings during the residential program. Clients also have access to a full service recreational facility for exercise. Lastly, the Harrison House medical director is a psychiatrist who provides brief evaluations and assists in medication management. Most of the clients stay for the outlined 28-day program although that is not a requirement. Harrison House pays close attention to the financial limitations of prospective clients and actually has contracts with several insurance companies. Generally, insurance companies are covering 10-15 days of the residential program (billed as “partial hospitalization”). The finance office is willing to work out a plan suitable for the prospective client and is sensitive in creating a plan that does not add additional burden to the family. The day treatment program is designed to permit the client to participate in all of the activities the residential program offers including the lunch and dinner meals, while staying at their home. The typical stay for day treatment can be anywhere from 2-4 weeks however, some clients begin in the day treatment program while awaiting a bed in the re
