Harold Jonas Interview on Steppin Out Radio

Steppin Out Radio

Harold grew up in a middle class family in Philadelphia. They moved to South Jersey when he was young. He started smoking marijuana in 1968 in the suburbs. His experimentation went on throughout High School. He went to college in Vermont and wound up in the theatre department, and continued to use drugs. At 23 years old, he moved to Manhattan where he met his first wife, having 3 children together. His addiction progressed and Harold ended up living on the streets of Camden, NJ for about 5 years. He finally went to his first detox in 1985, but came out worse than when he went in, spending $300/day on his habit. Over the next couple years he had multiple arrests and his father finally found him and sent him to a clinic in Florida. Harold got clean and began to take it one day at a time, showing a willingness and desire to stay sober. He met his current wife at a meeting, a woman he had known as a child, and together they are celebrating 20+ years each in sobriety.
