Practice Makes Imperfect
OR
How I Got To Where I Am
None of us got up one morning and suddenly found our lives were a
mess. None of us got up one morning to find we were full of emotional
pain. None of us got up one morning to find we were buried by bad
habits and/or addictions and/or depression.
We got there by practice over an extended period of time.
Most of our limiting factors are learned behavior, we tried some
things and they worked, or we decided to take short cuts; an easier
softer way. In getting there, we lost something that is the most
important treasure we can have, our SELF-ESTEEM. Without healthy self
love we are nothing, and can offer nothing to others. You can't give
what you haven't got. A simple truth. Try it with money.
Getting the life you want and deserve will not happen by accident.
If you knew how to achieve "life" goals on your own, you would not have
a life you were unhappy with. To improve, you need help, someone
trained to guide and who has done so for others with success. You also
need to get spiritually grounded, and the help you get should have a
solid grasp of spirituality. You, your helper and your spirituality can
co-create the life you want.
It took you a long period of time to get to the point where you knew
you had to change your life. Although when you start a journey of life
recovery, some things will get better very quickly. Big issues will
only improve over time and with teaching and practice. There are no
instant cures and nothing will happen without your hard work.
The 12 steps are a solid foundation for ANY and ALL
human beings to live by. If worked as they were written, and practiced
daily, you will enjoy good mental hygiene. So you need a helper who has
worked the steps and practices them in living life on life's terms.
You may have a specific goal or dream you want to achieve. Once you
have a solid foundation with life balance, a spiritual (not religious)
component and are of good mental hygiene, almost anything is possible.
Recovering the life you want is like an instalment plan, you get it
over time. It gets better if you allow yourself to be taught and do the
work that is required with honesty and urgency. It is better when you
do it on time. It is your life ultimately, and you should expect
improvement in every (holistic) area. Pay for it and you'll get it!
I am living proof, as are millions of others, that it can be done. I
coach the "Co-Creative process of Life Recovery" and can be found
through www.hopeserenity.ca. Lets spend an hour chatting!
The practices of positive living will not make life perfect, but it
will make the good things you want possible. It will also break the
cycle of practice making things more imperfect! YOU are fully
responsible for YOUR life.
